2- day Peace building discussion concluded in Northern Bahr el Ghazal

AWEIL-Christian Action for Development and Support (CADS) has concluded its two-day Peacbuilding meeting conducted in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state to sensitize local communities on peaceful coexistence.

Around 10 participants attracted from different civil society groups and communities in Aweil town. All discussions are made with respect to WHO guidelines on health, especially “social distancing”

The charity organization helps local communities to prioritize peace and to cease of conflicts among the communities in the state and South Sudan at large.

Speaking to Voice News Agency on Wednesday, attendants expressed their happiness on the skills they learned and vowed to pass them to grass roots.

Wilson Ajongo one of participants, appreciated the organization (CADS) and Aweil Civic Engagement Center which offers free space for civil society organizations to carry out activities without financial gain. 

“I am thankful for managers of Aweil Civic Engagement Center for granting us a space for the last two days to discuss issues affecting our local communities. The course talks about social cohesion and consultation in any arising matters within the communities,” said Ajongo

Disputes over resources and marriages are among common problems hamper the communities. Asunta Batista, a female representative stated that there are a lot of challenges facing people but she declared their readiness to help the people get rid of the problems.

“We came here and acquired new methods of peace promotion among the communities we understood so many ways how to hand conflicts between people,’’ she said in a statement to Voice News Agency.

Al-Gabat residential area chief, Malith Yout Yom, welcomed the forum and said the initiative has a lot of changes to bad images that still affect communities. The chief wanted the NGO carries out the same programs to create   positive change for people’s development.

The chief urged government, communities and to join their efforts to fight crimes such as thefts, acts of lawlessness and set and resilient communities.

“The meeting was so fruitful because it has many endeavors which promotes peaceful coexistence among the communities,” said the chief.

Democracy International has been supporting civil society organizations in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state by giving them small grants to allowing communities access to peace and conflict resolution messages.
