Aweil State Parliament summons minister of Finance over funds management, personal income tax


(15Dec AWEIL)-Aweil State parliament in its session on Wednesday, has summoned state finance minister, Garang Majak Bol, verify how did he oversee disposal of (6)Government vehicles and personal income tax which has been imposed on constitutional post holders in accordance with Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan.

In inclusive interview with Voice News on Wednesday, the Aweil State Minister of  Finance  and  Public Service, Garang Majak said,  he was called by the house to explain why his ministry taxes constitutional post holders, a move that lawmakers express it  illegal. But the minister stated that his Ministry is right to tax any worker in the Republic of South Sudan. He also summoned to explain more on government damaged vehicles  and how much have they have been sold.

“I was called by the parliament to answer some issues  that they think I need to answer . Number   one there was issue of personal incoming tax that deducted from constitutional  post holders.  And I told them this is in accordance with transitional   constitution of South Sudan article 175 imposes taxes on any  worker that receives salaries in all boundaries of South Sudan,’’ said the Minister. 
 
Coming to disposal of Government vehicles, the House questioned the Minister to disclosed   how did   Finance Ministry damage the assets,   and  to know how much amount  remitted.
Majak said that the state Council of Ministers  passed a resolution on how the vehicles  should be disposed, adding that he implements only what   has been approved  at the Council. Garang Majak said, “They were disposed based on the Council of Ministers and they were six vehicles. Those vehicles   were grounded  for long time.”

On his part, the Aweil State  Legislative Assembly Information Committee Chair, Benson Upuothamalo revealed that  members of parliament were in high deliberations  on the two issues,  and finally Government Chief Whip,  Aguer Wol Aguer  requested to meet the minister first and then he will be back to the August House  by next week with full report. All members accept Chief whip’s idea and allowed the minister to go and come with detailed report on the agendas.
